NAVFAC Southeast awards $33.1M contract for NAS Corpus Christi warehouse to accelerate fleet lethality
Naval Facilities Engineering Systems Command (NAVFAC) Southeast awarded a $33.1 million firm-fixed-price contract September 10 for the construction of a state-of-the-art logistics warehouse at Naval Air Station (NAS) Corpus Christi, directly enhancing Joint Force combat effectiveness and sustainment.
The modern distribution hub will serve the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA), providing critical materiel management and accelerating supply-chain velocity for frontline warfighters and key tenant commands across the region.
“Shore infrastructure is a direct power projector for fleet lethality,” said Lt Cmdr. Stephen Gonzalez, NAS Corpus Christi Resident Officer in Charge of Construction. “This high-capacity, resilient warehouse ensures DLA can rapidly equip the warfighter, eliminate operational bottlenecks, and maintain the peak material readiness required to fight and win in contested environments.”
The planned 156,600-square-foot facility expands and modernizes the installation’s capability to stage, maintain, and surge critical munitions, parts, and equipment. The facility directly underpins operational readiness for naval aviation units and high-tempo sustainment operations at the Corpus Christi Army Depot.
Engineered to maximize logistical agility, the warehouse features two large storage bays with a 26-foot clear stacking height and weather-sealed loading docks. It will incorporate a 1,300-square-foot administrative suite and a standalone fire pump building with redundant electric and diesel-powered systems to ensure uninterrupted operations and mission assurance. The project also includes parking, sidewalks, equipment ramps, and site utilities (electrical power, telecommunications, water, sanitary sewer). The structure will be raised to improve resiliency against flooding.
Work will be performed in Corpus Christi, Texas by B.L. Harbert International, LLC, of Birmingham, Alabama.
